I remember the first summer I had both Sheeba and Zoey. It was brutal! Temperatures soared. I saw my confident black-and-tan Sheeba panting heavily after our morning runs, while curious Zoey kept tilting her head at every noise outside. It hit me: I needed something to help them cool down.
The German Shepherd Difference
The short answer is: German Shepherds have unique needs when it comes to managing heat, due partly to their high energy levels and thick double coats.
When considering whether cooling mats are suitable for GSDs, you must understand that this breed tends to retain heat more than others because of their strong body mass (often weighing between 65-90 lbs). Their double coat offers insulation – which is great in winter. but not so much in summer.

'nThe short answer? Anytime it's hot! But particularly after strenuous activity like walks or playtime when they're most likely overheated.
